Wonderful Camera. Everything you need in a point and shoot.

Reviewer: Backwoodsben,
I've taken this point and shoot in small airplanes, hiking in Guatemala, backpacking, and along on kayaking river trips. I've dropped it numerous times. I've gotten it wet (not submerged). It's got some dings in it but still performs nicely. I love the high quality photos with only the click of a button. I wanted the quality that an SLR camera offers but without the weight and complications of extra lens and such. I shoot short videos. I love the sunset filter that makes a setting sun on a mountain peak really glimmer with a wonderful orange hue. I've used the zoom function to get close to marmots, ospreys and monkeys that were a decent ways away and have had good results. I used it in the rain forest taking pictures of Mayan ruins with only minimum fogging. I carry extra batteries and memory cards and can go for a couple of weeks on 3 or 4 batteries and a single 4 GB card. Even the cold tempearatures while skiing doesn't seem to slow down this camera. I did my homework before ordering a cheaper, refurbished model of this Cannon and I have never been more pleased with a purchase before!
Great camera

Really love this camera. I think it is one of the best point and click cameras on the market today. I will however say the zoom on this camera isn't very good. Other than that, I love it.
Still a great camera....

I purchased this camera a year and a half ago to replace my SD550 (which I gave to my wife). This camera had one of the best low light image quality at that time. This camera was definitely worth the upgrade from the SD550 due to its speed and preset settings and longer battery life.
one of the best

ive been using this camera in a variety of situations, indoors and outdoors, studio and field and am qualified as a photographer and artist to review it.
i have found the camera to be versatile and portable with incredible image quality. the zoom lens has jammed as i have got send in it both on beaches in canada and in the desert in california but in both circumstances repeated openeing and closing of the lens mechanism has seemed to remedy the problem. zoom lenses are vulnerable in this way and i think all zoom lenses are susceptible to this problem.
that said, the camera is amazing and worth its price. i would recommend it to any level of photographer.
the controls require some learning however but patience will pay off in fine photography.
well done, canon.
Excellent companion for a travelers

I brought my 5D with my fancy lens collection on my trip to Korea. Now almost 2 weeks into it, I've only opened my camera twice. This niffty little camera can handle most practical situations. Very good in low light situations (thanks to IS) and very good light metering. I have been very impressed with this camera and will recommend it to anyone in the market for a point and shoot. (This is my 6th point and shoot! None other have impressed as much as this!!)

Aside from the fantastic picture quality.. few things I really like about the camera.
- the power button is small and is hard to "accidentally" press. this protects the lens when it's in your pocket. I've broken several PS cameras in my pocket this way.
- very inexpensive aftermarket batteries are available.
- ability to delete images based on date range.

I'm sure there are other thoughtful features I'm failing to list here... all in all, stop reading and buy.
